
Pregnant Nurse Murder: Anambra Police Arrest One, Recover Suspected Human Parts in Shrine Raid
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, in connection with the gruesome murder and mutilation of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson disclosed that the arrest, made on July 25, 2025, followed credible intelligence and support from residents of Umueri village, Ogbunike community. The mutilated remains of the nurse were earlier found in a soakaway pit.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, who is currently on the run. She confessed to cleaning up blood stains after the killing and revealed that body parts were sold to native doctors in the area. Preliminary findings suggest the victim, a trained nurse, was lured to the suspect’s residence under the pretense of offering medical treatment.
Following the lead, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) stormed the shrine of a native doctor, Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile, at Itima Amawa Village in Ogbunike on July 29, where suspected human parts wrapped in nylon bags were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, has condemned the act, describing it as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He assured the public of a thorough investigation and called for information from anyone who may aid the manhunt for the fleeing prime suspect and accomplices, pledging full protection for informants.
