Troops Repel Coordinated Terrorist Attack on Kukawa, Destroy Gun Trucks
Nigerian troops have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist offensive on their positions in Kukawa after a prolonged overnight confrontation supported by air power.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, reported that the insurgents launched the attack late on February 20, advancing from different directions using gun trucks, motorcycles, and foot soldiers in an apparent attempt to overwhelm the troops.
Soldiers responded with sustained firepower, engaging the attackers in a fierce battle that stretched into the early hours of February 21. The troops eventually forced the insurgents to retreat, with the fleeing fighters reportedly evacuating their casualties from the scene.
Air support was later deployed to pursue the withdrawing assailants. During the operation, one gun truck and several motorcycles conveying the terrorists were destroyed, and more fighters were neutralised.
Subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, three handheld radios, and other equipment believed to have been used in the assault. Troops also found signs suggesting the attackers suffered losses during the clash.
The military confirmed that one soldier was killed in action, while some equipment was damaged by rocket fire. Injured personnel were evacuated for medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Military authorities said the joint ground and air response reflects ongoing efforts to maintain pressure on insurgent elements and degrade their fighting capacity across the theatre of operations.
