(VIDEO) HIJAB: CHRISTIANS/MUSLIM CLASH IN ILORIN FOLLOWING GOVERNMENT ORDER TO REOPEN SCHOOLS

Christians and Muslims on Wednesday clashed in Ilorin, Kwara state Following the Kwara state government order to reopen 10 schools previously shut over hijab controversy. 


Sources say student violence erupted when students wearing hijab were not allowed to enter the Baptist School in Surulere by protesting Christians.


Videos on social media captured Muslims and Christians throwing objects at themselves. 


Security operatives have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.

10 schools in Kwara state were shut last month over the use of hijab by female school students. 


However, the Kwara state government released a statement ordering the reopening of the schools and allowing Muslim students to wear their hijab.


The order, however, did not sit well with Christians, especially those in Baptist Schools and Christian missionaries/ grant-aided schools.

The Christian protesters majorly dressed in white garments carried placards with inscriptions such as: ‘No Hijab in Baptist Schools and all mission/grant-aided schools’, ‘Otoge, give us back our schools, among others.
