7 DIE, 14 RESCUED IN BOAT ACCIDENT IN LAGOS
The Lagos State Government says 7 people have died while 14 have been rescued in a recent boat accident in the State.
19 passengers and 2 crew members were aboard the capsized boat.
This was confirmed by the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
Mr. Oke-Osanyintolu told newsmen at the Ipakodo Jetty during the conclusion of the search and rescue operation at Ipadoko Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu.
He said the search and rescue operations, alongside Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) dive team, started under extreme conditions, adding that the operations had been concluded on Sunday, July 5th, 2020.
The LASEMA Chairman revealed that the incident happened around 8pm on July 3rd after the boat departed Ebute-Ero on its way to Ikorodu.
He admonished the public to abide by the safety regulations of the State, including appropriate use of life jackets and restrictions on timing and plying of the waterways.
