AIG GARBA BABA UMAR ELECTED AS INTERPOL VICE PRESIDENT FOR AFRICA
Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Garba Baba Umar, erstwhile Head, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Nigeria, has been elected Vice President for Africa and Executive Committee Member of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO).
AIG Garba was elected on Thursday at the 89th INTERPOL General Assembly, currently holding at the Halic Congress Hall, Istanbul, Turkey.
The 2021 General Assembly has 470 Police Chiefs, Ministers and Senior Law Enforcement Officials from the 195 INTERPOL member countries in attendance.
The Assembly said it now, more than ever "Seeks to identify areas where the organization can reinforce the global security architecture and enhance collaboration against national and transnational crimes."
AIG Garba, who was described by the Nigerian authorities as one of Country's finest criminal investigators and professional strategic Police manager has over thirty years policing experience, both at national and international levels.
He polled 97.2 per cent of votes to emerge the winner in the elections. His tenure is to last for three years.
He is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear in coordinating INPERPOL Operations targeted at ensuring a safer world for people and communities across the African continent.
The Nigeria’s delegation to the 89th General Assembly is led by the Honourable Minster of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, represented and supported by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.
