CHINA SENDS CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE TO US PRESIDENT-ELECT, JOE BIDEN
China, on Friday, November 13, sent a congratulatory message to US President-elect, Joe Biden, seven days after he was declared winner of the US presidential election.
Before Friday, China was amongst major countries including Russia and Mexico that had not congratulated the president-elect.
“We respect the choice of the American people. We express our congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris,” Wang Wenbin, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.
Wang said China understands the result of the US election will be determined in accordance with US laws and procedures.
In recent years, both countries have been at loggerheads under the regime of incumbent President, Donald Trump.
Trump’s four years in the White House have been marked by a ‘war’ between the two countries, with the US President blaming China for the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
