Chinese Military Delegation Visits Nigerian Army Headquarters, Strengthens Bilateral Ties
In a bid to bolster bilateral ties, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, welcomed a delegation from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Defence University (PLA) to the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja on December 13, 2024. The high-level delegation, led by Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, sought to enhance cooperation, foster mutual understanding, and explore opportunities in training and military education between the two nations' armed forces.
Representing the COAS, Major General Etsu-Ndagi, the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), outlined the Nigerian Army’s (NA) achievements in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations. He emphasized that strategic training, effective equipping, and dynamic operational approaches have significantly reduced the activities of terrorist groups and improved national security. He highlighted the importance of tailoring military operations to address evolving security challenges, showcasing the NA’s role as a model for combating modern threats.
Rear Admiral Hu GangFeng, speaking on behalf of the Chinese delegation, reiterated China’s dedication to international military collaboration. He pledged the PLA’s support to the NA, particularly in capacity-building and training initiatives. The delegation, comprising representatives from theatre commands, military services, and course participants, emphasized the value of knowledge exchange in forging a sustainable partnership.
This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to deepening military cooperation and strengthening shared efforts to address global security challenges.
