CONFUSION AS UNKNOWN AGENCY LAVMAB ARRESTS MOTORISTS FOR NOT BUYING WASTEBASKET FROM LAGOS STATE

A video has emerged online capturing officers who say they are from the Lagos State Vehicle Waste Basket agency LAVMAB accosting a man for using a wastebasket he bought from Ekiti in a Lagos State registered vehicle.

In the video, the LAVMAB official can be seen telling the perplexed owner of the vehicle that he was carrying an unauthorised wastebasket.

“You are carrying Ekiti waste bin inside Lagos State vehicle… which is wrong. The fact that you are living in Lagos State, you are working in Lagos State, this is what you are supposed to carry not Ekiti state.”

When asked how much a Lagos State wastebasket costs, the LAVMAB officials said it costs “N3,500 plus clearance.”

The man asked if he could just go to the market to get his own (probably cheaper) wastebin, but the LAVMAB officials were adamant.

“You shouldn’t because your vehicle license is registered in Lagos,” an official said.

Eventually, the vehicle owner gave in and bought the wastebin from the LAVMAB officials.

The video has garnered several reactions on social media with the majority wondering what LAVMAB is?

LAVMAB has no website, no social media presence, and Lagos state, which has a number of agencies under its Ministry of Environment is yet to announce that it has launched a new one to monitor the use of waste bins in vehicles.

“LAGOS STATE VEHICLE WASTE BASKET ENFORCEMENT AGENCY????

NA CRASE???” A twitter user asked.

“Fun fact. There is a waste basket enforcement task force in Lagos State. Complete with official bus,” another said.
