COVID-19: AJAOKUTA MEDICAL CENTRE SHUT DOWN
The management of the Ajaokuta steel company has shut down its Medical Centre for decontamination after recording its index COVID-19 case.
The hospital’s Deputy General Manager, D.Y Salisu made this known in a memo issued and posted on the facility’s notice board on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
According to the memo, the management said a team of health professionals from Kogi State Ministry of Health in Lokoja has commenced contact tracing and sample taking for COVID-19.

The memo read, “You may be aware that a case of COVID-19 had been confirmed at the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited Medical Centre. The victim had since been moved to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja under the watch of relevant agencies.
“We had commenced contact tracing and sample taking for COVID-19 tests being conducted by a team of health professionals from Kogi State Ministry of Health Lokoja.
“In line with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control protocol and guidelines, all contacts have been directed to proceed on self-isolation for 14 days and the entire hospital will be decontaminated to prevent further infection and community spread.”

“In view of this unfortunate development, the hospital will be shut down for services effective from 12:00 hrs on Friday the 7th August 2020 to Sunday 16th August 2020.
“Normal services will resume at 6:00 am on Monday the 17th August 2020.”
According to the NCDC, as of Thursday, August 6, Kogi State has recorded 5 confirmed cases of COVID-19, made 3 discharges and 2 deaths.
