Delta police arrest two, recover guns, ammunition and other weapons
The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges and other dangerous items in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, raided a residence in Obiaruku on September 12, 2026, following information that the occupant was allegedly in possession of firearms and ammunition.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Joel Iwomi, from Umuebu, Obiaruku, reportedly resisted the operatives’ attempt to gain access to the residence. The officers eventually entered the premises and recovered a pump-action gun and 18 live cartridges.
Iwomi was arrested and taken into custody, while investigation into the case continues.
In a separate operation conducted on September 9, 2026, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU) arrested Chukwuka Nzete, also known as “Ododo”, in Isupe Community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
Nzete was suspected of involvement in the illegal sale and proliferation of firearms and allegedly operated a shrine where criminal elements were reportedly fortified.
A search of his residence led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, four dagger knives, a battle axe and pots containing substances suspected to be charms.
The suspect remains in custody as police investigate his activities and possible links to other criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to preventing criminal elements from gaining access to illegal firearms and other weapons.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious persons, illegal firearms and criminal activities in their communities, assuring that actionable information would be treated confidentially.
