#ENDSARS: GOVERNOR OBIANO FIRES FORMER SARS COMMANDER, JAMES NWAFOR, ACCUSED OF KILLING INNOCENT CITIZENS

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has given in to the demand of #ENDSARS protesters, by sacking a former commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), CSP James Nwafor.


Governor Obiano announced the immediate sack of CSP James who has been accused of extrajudicial killing and extorting youths in the State.


The development is coming sequel to the outcry of the Nigerian youths seeking the prosecution of the Nwafor over alleged killing of some unsuspecting citizens.


The Governor, while addressing #ENDSARS protesters in Awka on Thursday made his decision known, describing the demands of the protesters as genuine and germane.

In a statement released by Governor Obiano via his twitter handle on Thursday, he tweeted: “Today, I joined youths of our dear State to say #EndPoliceBrutality and I support them because they did not only vote and defend their votes in my 21-over-21 victory but all their requests are genuine and germane, and I oblige to honour them all.


“James Nwafor, former OC SARS in Anambra State is sacked and will be prosecuted”.


He also disclosed that a panel has been set up to investigate police brutality and extra-judicial killings in the State.


“Following my meeting with amazing #EndSARS protesters in Anambra, earlier today, we’ve setup up a Panel of Inquiry over Reports of Abuse of Human Rights, as communicated in the attached images”.

He said the panel will look, in particular, into allegations of extrajudicial killings by a former head of the SARS Office in Anambra, Chief Superintendent of Police James Nwafor (retired), whose appointment as a Special Assistant to the Governor has since been terminated.


The indicted former SARS commander was accused of killing innocent youths and dumping them in the Ezu River. He was alleged to have dumped over 1,000 bodies in the river.


The Governor stated further that: “First, Federal Government has disbanded SARS but I will personally visit all SARS offices in Anambra State to ensure that anyone being held is released, immediately;

“Second, James Nwafor, former OC SARS in Anambra State is sacked and will be prosecuted.


“Third, I’ll ensure that the Presidency does the needful to ensure a better life for our youths, for us, ndi Anambra and for our nation. Long Live Anambra Youths! Aluta continua!”


The Governor assured residents of the State that all those arrested will be released immediately.
