ENUGU POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN GRUESOME MURDER OF 4-YEAR-OLD GIRL
Police operatives from the Nsukka Sector of the Enugu State Command's Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect, Nweke Chukwuemeka, for the brutal murder of his neighbor's 4-year-old daughter, Zinachukwu Ugwu.
On August 18, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., police received a distress call regarding the murder at a compound on Orba Road in Nsukka Local Government Area. Upon arrival, officers found the lifeless body of the child and arrested the suspect, who was found with a knife, Indian hemp, and a charm.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, a resident of the compound, attacked the child while she slept, cutting her throat with a knife. He had earlier attempted to attack other neighbors but was resisted. The suspect confessed to the crime, citing the influence of drugs and alcohol. He also claimed membership in the Vikings Confraternity and a previous involvement in a cult clash in Jos, Plateau State.
The suspect will face arraignment and prosecution upon completion of investigations.
