FG Declares Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Public Holiday in Honour of Late Former President Muhammadu Buhari
The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The announcement follows the seven-day period of national mourning earlier declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, stating that the holiday is approved by President Tinubu as a mark of respect for Buhari’s contributions to national unity, democracy, and governance.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the minister said.
He urged citizens to observe the day by promoting peace, patriotism, and national unity in line with the late President’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
The Minister also reaffirmed that the national flag will continue to fly at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which began on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The Federal Government extended its condolences to the late President’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
