FG Resolves Passport Printer Crisis at Atlanta, New York Consulates
The Federal Government has resolved the passport printer crisis at its consulates in Atlanta and New York, USA.
This follows a directive issued in January 2025 by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to deliver new passport printers to both consulates.
According to Babatunde Alao, the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the machines were delivered and installed on February 18, 2025.
Addressing Diaspora Concerns
The resolution comes after Vanguard reported complaints from Nigerians in the diaspora, urging the minister to address delays in passport processing due to faulty printers.
Alao stated that the installation of the new printers provides immediate relief and aligns with the ministry’s efforts to streamline passport services.
“The ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” the minister said.
Ongoing Reforms in Passport Processing
He also highlighted ongoing reforms, including:
- The Abuja Passport Personalisation Centre
- Expansion of contactless solutions to more regions
These efforts aim to further enhance service efficiency.
“This development aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and underscores the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians,” the statement added.
With the new printers in place, Nigerians in Atlanta and New York can now expect faster and more efficient passport processing.
