FIVE KILLED, 13 INJURED IN SUICIDE BOMB ATTACK IN CENTRAL SOMALIA
Four senior military officers and a civilian were killed and 13 others injured in a suicide bomb attack on Friday in Mudug region of central Somalia where Prime Minister Mohamed Roble was meant to address a delegation, a Government official said.
It was gathered that a suicide bomber wearing a suicide vest blew himself up outside the Abdullahi Isse Stadium in Galkayo where the people had gathered to welcome Roble.
Those killed in the attack included senior commander of the special forces, Danab, and his deputy and former mayor of Galkayo, according to the Spokesperson for the Government, Ismael Mukhtar Omar.
It was learnt that a former SNA 21st Brigade from Dhuusamareeb Qooje Dagaari and Central Danab Commander were seriously wounded in the attack.
Omar said: "I can confirm five people - four senior military officials and a former mayor of Galkayo were among those killed in the suicide bomb attack today. Thirteen people were wounded."
He said the prime minister and Galmudug leader were on their way to the stadium to attend a welcoming rally for Roble when the bomb went off before they could arrive at the stadium.
Residents said the scene of the latest attack was still strewn with bodies of slain soldiers and civilians.
Al-Shabab terror group claimed responsibility for the latest attack in the central town of Galkayo, saying their target was the prime minister but instead killed senior army officials.
The al-Qaida allied terror group was driven out of Mogadishu by the Somali army and African Union forces in 2011 but the group still carries out attacks in Mogadishu and rural areas in the central and southern regions.
