FLOOD DISPLACES 1,000 RESIDENTS IN ANAMBRA

Residents of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State are in distress as a great flood has displaced about 1,000 persons in four communities in the region.

This was disclosed by the Transition Committee Chairman of the Ogbaru council, Mr Arinze Awogu, in a statement on Monday, September 14th, 2020.

Awogu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the flood submerged many farmlands in the communities.

The Chairman said the displaced families had relocated to other communities due to the rise in the water level in Ogbaru Local Government.

He revealed that the victims are yet to go to the Displaced Persons Holding Camp but are taking refuge in the homes of friends and relatives in other communities.

Arinze stated that their crops had either been washed away or got rotten in the affected farmlands.

The council Chairman admonished the victims to move into the camps rather than wait until another disaster happens.

He said; "Ogbaru is gradually but steadily going under water, our farms have been submerged, especially the roots crops.

"At least, 1,000 persons were displaced from their homes and some victims decided to join their relatives, refusing to go into the camps."
