GUNMEN KILL LGA CHAIRMAN IN TARABA

Salihu Dovo, Chairman of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State has been killed by his abductors.


Sovo was abducted in the early hours of Sunday, 24th January 2021 by the criminals who invaded his residence in the Sabon Gari area of Jalingo, the State capital.


A family source said the gunmen numbering about 20 came in through the fence of the house, attacked the security guards before gaining entrance into the main building.


The kidnappers whisked away the Chairman to an unknown destination and a few hours later called his family members to come pick up his corpse in the bush, the source added.


According to the source, the gunmen also carted away some of the mobile phones belonging to those in the building.

The Source said that no ransom was demanded from the family.


Confirming the Incident, David Misal, the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing and investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.


Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue in the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.


Dovo who was a member of the People's Democratic Party, the ruling party in the state, was caretaker chairman of Ardo-Kola LGA from 2017 to 2020.


In May 2020, he successfully contested in the LGA elections and was inaugurated as Chairman of the LGA in June 2020.


This is not the first time persons of high political status will be abducted and sometimes murdered in the State.


On 9th December 2020, unknown gunmen abducted Bashir Mohammed, the lawmaker representing Nguroje constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly.


In January 2018, Hosea Ibi, a lawyer who represented Takum II Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, was found dead after he was abducted by gunmen on the 30th of December 2017.
