INSECURITY: PROTESTS IN SOME NORTHERN CITIES AS YOUTHS ACCUSE PRESIDENT, GOVERNORS OF COMPLACENCY

What started as a singular protest against insecurity and in Kano may have spilled to other Northern Cities, as hundreds of youths are currently demonstrating on the major streets of Kano, Bauchi, Abuja, Zamfara and Sokoto States. 


The protests are coming days after score of travellers were burnt alive by bandits in Sokoto, Fifteen worshippers killed inna Mosque while many others were also wounded during bandits attacks on Mosques in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.


The North East and North Western parts of the Country has been engulfed in a seemingly intractable security challenge for more than Ten years now. 


The crisis have defied all possible solutions. Both the terrorists and the Government Forces record fatalities on a daily basis as the former gets more audacious after each attack. 


The protesters, said to be chanting peace songs and carrying placards are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and State Governors to show more interest in tackling insecurity.


In Kano, the protesters reportedly marched to the Government House, wielding placards with the inscription: "No More Blood Shed." They were received and addressed by Security Operatives, who promised to channel their grievances to the matter to the appropriate Offices.


Leader of the protesters, Zainab Naseer Ahmad, said insecurity was threatening the lives, sourves of livelihood and the very existence of Nigerians.


“We came to share our concern and send a message to our leaders. We are tired of the worsening state of insecurity in the Country. Every now and then, lives are lost, people are being unjustly killed like animals. We demand the return of peace to our Country."


“We are saying enough is enough, no more bloodshed. There is a massive increase in the number of out-of-school children. There are orphans everywhere. We can’t travel in peace. The economy is crumbling. People are burnt alibe while travelling.”


Zainab Ahmed said the youths will no longer fold their hands and watch the Country crumble completely. 


Some of the youths also claim they are angered by what they described as President Buhari's visit to Lagos on Thursday to inaugurate projects and attend the launch of an autobiography of Bisi Akande, a former chieftain of the ruling party, while innocent lives, including that of a sitting Commisioner were being cut short in Katsina and other parts of the North on the same day. 


Security Agencies are adviced to handle the protests and demonstrations in the most diplomatic manner possible to avoid a possible degeneration.
