Iran Prepares to Retaliate Against Israel Following Airstrikes
Iran is reportedly preparing to respond to Israel’s recent airstrikes, a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated on Sunday, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
On October 26, Israeli fighter jets targeted Iranian military sites in what the Israeli Defence Forces described as retaliation for Tehran’s earlier missile attack. Weeks prior, Iran had launched approximately 200 ballistic missiles at Israel.
Israeli forces announced the completion of their operation, claiming to have achieved their objectives and warning Iran against retaliation. However, Iranian officials have vowed a "proportional reaction," with reports of multiple explosions in Tehran and nearby military sites during the strikes. Iranian air defense systems reportedly intercepted several of the attacks, limiting damage to military locations in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces.
The renewed hostilities come amid heightened tensions following Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked widespread violence. Iran, a key supporter of Hamas and Lebanon-based Hezbollah, has repeatedly threatened retaliation against Israeli actions in the region.
