BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS ATTACK YOBE STATE GOVERNOR'S CONVOY, KILL ONE POLICEMAN

Suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Governor Mai Mala Buni's security escorts in Yobe state on Saturday, resulting in the death of one policeman and injuries to six others.

The security team accompanied the governor to Maiduguri for the University of Maiduguri's 24th Convocation ceremony, during which Vice-President Kashim Shettima received an honorary doctorate degree.

The information available indicates that the assailants ambushed the governor's convoy and opened fire at them. Immediately the security forces repelled the attack and pushed back the terrorists in exchange for a gun duel.

However, one Police Officer paid the supreme price. Also, two soldiers including a driver, three policemen, and a DSS sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the wounded security personnel are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
