UN STAFF IN VIRAL SEX VIDEO SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY
The United Nations has suspended two of its workers over allegations of sexual misconduct in an official car in Israel.
In an 18-second video clip that went viral last month, a woman in a red dress could be seen mounting a man in the back seat of a UN vehicle on a street in Tel Aviv.
Following an investigation, the International Organisation has confirmed that the men in the video are staff members of UN military observers based in Israel identified as the internal United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).
The UN says the culprits were suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident.
Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN's secretary-general who confirmed the development to the BBC said their suspension was appropriate "given the seriousness of the allegations of failing to observe the standards of conduct expected of international civil servants".
"UNTSO has re-engaged in a robust awareness-raising campaign to remind its personnel of their obligations to the UN Code of Conduct," Mr Dujarric added.
There have been frequent allegations of sexual misconducts against UN peacekeepers over the years.
According to a report published in 2019, there were 175 allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse against UN staff members, most of which are still under investigations.
