LIBEL: PANTAMI’S LAWYERS ORDER DAILY INDEPENDENT TO RETRACT PUBLICATION LINKING MINISTER TO BOKO HARAM WITHIN 24 HOURS
Lawyers of Nigeria’s Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Isa Ali Pantami have written to Daily Independent Newspapers demanding that the media outlet retract its false publication linking the minister to Boko Haram terrorists.
Recall that the media organisation on Monday published a report captioned “Disquiet As America Places Nigerian Minister on Watch List” suggesting that Pantami has links with the Boko Haram insurgents who has waged a decade long war on the Nigeria government.
The report which has gone viral, caught the attention of several online blogs who republished the report on their blogs.

On Monday, Newswireng, one of the online blogs retracted the report after independently verifying the claims and analysing the video attached in the report.
In the letter dated Monday, April 12, Pantami’s Lawyers accused Daily Independent of deliberately publishing the false report in a bid to tarnish the image of the minister’s image and therefore demanded the following:

A 24-hour ultimatum to retract the libelous report as well as a letter of apology published in at least 5 print media and 5 renowned online media across the globe.
A press conference to publicly announce the retraction while disassociating Pantami from the false claims.
