MEDICAL DOCTOR TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19 IN BAYELSA
An unnamed medical doctor has tested positive for Coronavirus in Bayelsa.
This was made known by Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri.
Diri, who doubles as the chairman of the COVID-19 Task Force announced the new confirmed case yesterday during a meeting of the COVID-19 Task Force, at the Government House in Yenagoa.
The Acting Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah, quoted the Governor as saying the doctor, who works at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, was earlier admitted at a private hospital before he tested positive for the virus.
Diri said the doctor’s travel history showed that he came into the state after a trip to Delta State, adding that the hospital had been shut down for decontamination.
The Governor, who said 5 other positive COVID-19 patients had been successfully treated and discharged, cautioned frontline medical personnel handling active cases to adhere strictly to the NCDC protocols.
According to the NCDC, as of May 19th, 2020, Bayelsa has recorded 7 cases of Coronavirus.
Of the 7 cases, 2 are active and are on admission, 5 discharges have been made, and no death has been recorded.
