NASS IS NO LONGER SAFE AS THE OFFICE OF A LAWMAKER WAS BURGLED

The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has alerted the lawmakers that the complex is no longer safe as his office was burgled.

Kalu who confirmed the incident said, his office on the first floor of the new House of Representative was broken into by unknown persons.

Kalu is the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

The office was ransacked and left scattered. As at the time of the report, the motives of the perpetrators have not been known. The Head of Security has been informed of the development.

Kalu expressed his shock by stating that such has never happened before, which should be taken seriously as the National Assembly is no longer safe for lawmakers.

Speaking further on the ugly incident, Kalu said maybe the intention of perpetrators was to steal valuable documents, money or plant any security or spying device inside the office.

Kalu who blamed the incident on the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country said the incident is the consequence of COVID-19 pandemic which has mitigated the House’s daily sittings.

“When we were sitting every day, we never experienced this. Hoodlums see this as an opportunity to break into peoples’ offices.

“For my office to be broken into means a lot. I don’t know how many offices have been broken into.

Kalu, who has a strong belief in the security agencies, says he is sure that thorough investigation will be carried out by the Security agents to get to the root of the matter.

An investigation is ongoing by security personnel to know motives of the perpetrators, might be one of those suggested by the lawmaker.
