NDLEA ARRESTS 196 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS IN TARABA
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested 196 suspects for drug-related offences in Taraba State, Channels Tv reports.
Suleiman Jadi, State Commander of the NDLEA, made this known on Friday, June 26, 2020, during the year’s International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Jalingo, the State Capital.
Jadi revealed that the agency had arrested several persons for drug related offences between July 2019 and March 2020, adding that 39 of them have been convicted.
The Commander revealed that the suspects were arrested with about 883.76kilograms of Cannabis Sativa and psychotropic substances in different parts of the State.
He added that the command had successfully counseled and enlightened persons on drug use.

According to the NDLEA State Commander, Taraba has been experiencing a spike in drug abuse cases since the emergence of COVID-19.
He said the situation was further worsened due to inadequate and substandard rehabilitation centre of the agency for victims of drug abuse.
Jadi added that some of the challenges faced by the command include accommodation, logistics, and rehabilitation facilities for drug addicts.
Similarly, the NDLEA, Lagos Command, on Tuesday, June 23, said it had arrested 544 persons for drug-related offences and seized 14, 196.800 kg of hard drugs in Lagos State alone within 12 months, Eons Intelligence reported.
The Agency’s State Commander, Barr. Ralph Igwenagu said the command had secured the conviction of 144 defendants, who were consequently sentenced with various jail terms, adding that 160 drug users were counseled and rehabilitated.
