NSA Ribadu Slams Canadian Embassy Over Visa Denial to Defence Chief
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has criticized the Canadian embassy for denying visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the inaugural annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS), Ribadu expressed strong displeasure over the decision, stating that Canada’s actions were disrespectful.
General Musa, while addressing the gathering, revealed that he and his team were scheduled to travel to Canada for an event honoring war veterans but were denied visas.
"Every disappointment is a blessing. We were meant to be in Canada for an event to honor our veterans, especially those injured in battle. Unfortunately, while some members of our team were granted visas, others were denied," Musa said.
Reacting to the situation, Ribadu commended the CDS for openly addressing the issue, stating, "Thank you for the courage to say Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell."
He further emphasized the need for Nigeria to strengthen itself as a nation, adding, "Though it is painful and disrespectful, we must remain peaceful and strong. This is another reason we must work hard to make Nigeria better."
Ribadu also lauded the defence chief for his leadership in tackling insecurity, highlighting ongoing collaboration among security agencies nationwide.
