POLICE ARRESTS 17 PERSONS FOR INCITING YOUTHS TO PROTEST IN NIGER
The Niger State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects for inciting youths in the State to hold a protest.
This development comes on the heels of plans by some persons to embark on a protest despite the ban on public demonstrations by the State Government.
The State’s Police PRO, Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday, October 27, confirmed the incident.
Abiodun, who revealed that most of those arrested were not from the State, said the suspects are currently under investigation and they will be charged to court for prosecution.
He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and warns, and ensure they remain peaceful.
The Police Spokesperson noted that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman, commended youths in the State for displaying high level of responsibility, calmness, perseverance and restraint in the face of threats and calls from different quarters.
He also lauded the State Government, traditional institutions, communities and religious leaders for their support and cooperation with the police and other security agencies in the State.
