Operatives of the Imo State Police Command has successfully foiled a suspected robbery operation, recovered stolen items, and arrested an armed cultist in separate incidents as part of its ongoing crackdown on crime.

In a statement, the command disclosed that operatives of the Owerri Area Command Police Headquarters, while on convoy patrol at about 4:00 a.m. on February 7, sighted two individuals on a motorcycle carrying three large bags at Warehouse Roundabout. Upon noticing the police, the suspects attempted to escape toward Royce Road, Owerri, but abandoned their motorcycle and fled through a canal.

A subsequent search of the abandoned property led to the recovery of a Bazar motorcycle and three bags containing suspected stolen items, including seven MP-3 Bluetooth speakers, 86 Hytel phones, one new torchlight, 17 flash drives, nine fairly used phones, one USB cord, an HP laptop, a burglary cutter, a pack of boxer shorts, three packs of singlets, and 17 new power banks. The recovered items have been taken to the police station for investigation, and victims of theft have been urged to visit the Owerri Area Command with proof of ownership for possible reclaiming.

In another operation, officers from Nekede Divisional Headquarters intercepted a suspected armed cultist, Nwosu Chibueze Anthony, 23, along Sugar Island Lodge, at the Polytechnic Back Gate, Nekede, at about 12:45 a.m. on February 10. The suspect, who hails from Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government Area, was found in possession of a locally fabricated shotgun. Upon interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity. He has since been transferred to the Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining security, directing all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and tactical units to sustain aggressive patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-driven operations across the state.
