POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED FILIPINO LADY LURED TO NIGERIA BY LOVER
The Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command said it has rescued a 40-year-old Filipino lady identified as Irene Torento Pana, who was lured to Nigeria by lover, Chukwudi Odo.
According to the Police Command, the victim arrived Nigeria on 22nd November, 2019 from Philippines in an apparent search for love.
Panas, an Accountant and native of Manila in the Philippines, came to Nigeria to visit her 54 year old lover, whom she met on Facebook on 8th March, 2017 at Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, the Force said.
The visit which was originally intended to be for 10 days turned out to be a full case of abduction following Odo’s refusal to allow her return to her country, the Force added.
The victim, as at the time of rescue, was very ill and was taken to the hospital for medical attention where she was admitted from 5th June to 16th June.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect deliberately lured the victim into the country with the aim of confining her, sexually abusing, and extorting money from her.
The Force said it has contacted the embassy of the Philippines in Nigeria to help reunite the victim with her family members.
Speaking on the situation, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu urged the general public to be more cautious on the usage of social media.
