President Tinubu Departs for Two-Week Vacation in the UK
At exactly 2:35 p.m., President Tinubu departed after exchanging pleasantries with top government officials in Abuja, the nation's capital. Earlier, the president marked Nigeria's 64th Independence Day anniversary with a speech in which he announced plans to introduce a 30-day conference aimed at involving the youth in his administration.
The President stated that the framework for the conference and the selection process for delegates would be developed soon.
"As we strive to overcome today's challenges, we remain focused on the next generation, seeking to harness their creativity for a better future," he said during his second Independence Day broadcast since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
"We lead today with a clear vision of the future we want to leave for our children, knowing we cannot design it without making them central to its creation. With this in mind, I am pleased to announce a National Youth Conference. This platform will address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our youth, who make up more than 60 percent of our population.
"This conference will spark meaningful dialogue and empower young people to take an active role in nation-building. By ensuring their voices are part of the policy-making process, we are paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.
"The 30-day conference will bring together youth from across the country to collaboratively find solutions to issues such as education, employment, innovation, security, and social justice. The selection of delegates and the structure of the event will be created in consultation with youth representatives, ensuring that their aspirations are at the heart of the discussions.
"As leaders, it is our responsibility to take the outcomes of this conference seriously and implement its recommendations, as we are committed to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria."
President Tinubu also emphasized that his administration is reforming Nigeria’s political economy and defense structures to ensure the nation's survival. He praised the resilience of the Nigerian people, noting that the country has endured crises that have caused the collapse of other nations.
The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to defeating bandits and terrorists so that displaced farmers can return to their lands and help reduce rising food prices by boosting production.
