SIX REPENTANT BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS ESCAPE FROM GOVERNMENT CUSTODY - BORNO STATE
The Borno State Government has confirmed that six repentant insurgents who had surrendered and undergone processing under the Borno Model of Reconciliation, Peacebuilding and Development have escaped.
According to a statement released by Prof. Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, the government is working closely with relevant agencies to track and arrest the escapees.
The repentant insurgents were part of a larger group of over 20,000 militants documented and profiled as "low risk" in terms of mental state, vulnerability to violent extremism, and propensity for psychotropic substance abuse.
Preliminary investigations have debunked rumors that the escapees fled with government arms. The government warned against amplifying terrorist propaganda, stressing that this could embolden terrorists and undermine counter-insurgency operations.
The Borno State Government assured citizens that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure peace and security in the state. Citizens are urged to support the government's efforts in combating insurgency.
