Troops Intercept Major Drug Courier, Seize Over 100kg of Cannabis in Kogi
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier transporting a large consignment of cannabis along the Agbede axis in Kogi State.
The operation took place on 24 November 2025 when troops conducting a routine stop-and-search halted a Toyota Camry (Reg. No. DKA 158AU) driven by Mr. Johnson Ayo. A police-branded hat and belt displayed on the dashboard raised suspicion, prompting a detailed search.
Troops subsequently uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside the vehicle. Initial investigations indicate that such large-scale drug shipments often provide financial support to criminal networks and contribute to the rise of banditry and other violent activities across the state.
The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to disrupting illicit drug routes, weakening criminal supply chains, and enhancing security across Kogi State and neighbouring regions.
