Troops Raid ‘Mother Valley,’ Dismantle IPOB/ESN Stronghold in Anambra
Troops of the Joint Task Force South East under Operation UDO KA on February 26, 2026, carried out a coordinated ground assault on “Mother Valley” in Nkwere, Anambra State, described as a major hideout of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The operation, involving personnel of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, lasted over three hours as troops advanced through difficult terrain amid reported resistance.
Security sources said the suspects deployed improvised explosive devices and opened fire in an attempt to repel the advancing forces. One suspected IPOB member was killed during the exchange, while others reportedly fled with injuries.
Items recovered from the scene included two pump-action guns, a locally fabricated firearm, a tear gas gun, seven gas cylinders, and materials described as linked to extremist propaganda. Troops also destroyed structures and equipment allegedly used to power and sustain the camp, including solar panels and a generator.
In a related development, two suspected members of the group were arrested by an ambush team — one allegedly attempting to plant an improvised explosive device and another accused of monitoring troop movements. Security operatives also recovered a KIA saloon car and a black Toyota Sequoia from the location.
The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation, while clearance operations continue in the area. Authorities said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore security across the South-East.
