WE WILL OPEN SOON, PLEASE BEAR WITH US- FAAN
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria FAAN today appealed to citizens to please endure a little longer saying the airspace would soon be opened for commercial flights to begin.
The Nigeria airspace was shut to commercial operations in March to curb the Spread of the Coronavirus.
"We know you are eager to fly just as we are eager to open our doors for you but we need to do it safely. We are putting all measures in place to keep you safe when you fly, pls bear with us," FAAN said in a statement.
As the country begins to open the economy, the Nigeria Government suspended its plan to resume domestic flight operation on June 21. According to the Minister of Aviation prematurely opening the airspace when adequate safety precautions have not been put in place would be "disastrous for all of us."
"The civil aviation authority despite pressures coming from all quarters will not approve the start any day until we are sure and we confirm that we are ready to start in a safe, secure, organised and efficient manner. To do otherwise is disastrous for all of us," he said.
On Saturday, June 27, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) conducted a simulation flight ahead of the reopening of the country's airspace for commercial operation.
FAAN Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN told reporters that the Federal Government is also testing the idea of deploying robots in airports across the federation as one of its measures to curb the pandemic.
