Vandal's Grisly End: Man Dies from Electrocution While Stealing Wires

An unidentified man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a power transformer in the Akute area of Ogun State.

Reports indicate that the community had been grappling with frequent theft and damage of electrical wires from their transformer. The tragic incident was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, in a statement released on Saturday.

According to Odutola, the deceased had climbed into the transformer enclosure and was electrocuted while trying to cut a wire. The incident was reported to the police by the chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe.

“At about 10:20 a.m. on Friday, the chairman of the Irewole community, Rasheed Ajagbe, informed the police that the community had been dealing with repeated theft and damage of electrical wires from their transformer. Early that morning, he received a call urging him to inspect the transformer,” the statement read.

Ajagbe, accompanied by other community executives, discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified individual near the transformer. It was apparent that the man had been electrocuted while attempting to cut the wires.

Odutola further disclosed that a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation and document evidence.

“Upon receiving the report, detectives visited the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation, and took photographs. The PHCN office was also contacted to assist with the situation. The corpse was removed and deposited at the General Hospital in Ifo for autopsy and preservation,” the statement added.

The police have assured the public of continued efforts to address vandalism and protect community resources.
