The Lagos State Police Command who confirmed the incident debunked the claim that Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba is from the Special Anti Robbery Squad- SARS.
According to the Police Statement released on Friday, October 9, the victim was in a romantic relationship with the police officer who is now on the run.
The Police are also investigating the source of the gun used by the assailant to perpetrate the act as police preliminary investigations revealed that Sergent Aiwansoba: “was off duty and not issued with a police rifle or arms as at the time of the incident, hence the Police's concern on the ownership and/or possession of the arms he used in perpetrating the act,” the police statement said.
Videos and images of Joy Eze in the pool of her blood flooded social media on Thursday evening with many tagging the incidence as an outcome of the #endsars protest, further fueling the anger of the protesters who are calling on the Government to disband the unit of the police.
