KATSINA AND DAURA EMIRATE COUNCILS SUSPEND SALLAH FESTIVITIES OVER RISE IN INSECURITY
Reports indicate that the Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils in Katsina state have suspended Sallah festivities following a rise in insecurity in the Northern region.
In a statement from the Emirates, activities like public display by horse riders (Durbar) at the palace of Abdulmumin Usman, the Emir of Katsina, and Faruk Umar, his counterpart in Daura, would be affected.
The Emir urged all Muslim faithful to dedicate the period to pray for the good of Nigeria.
“Yes, the Emirate Council has suspended activities concerning Durbar during the Sallah, but his Eminence has implored residents to seize the Sallah period in offering prayers for the state and for Nigeria,” he said.
In a statement signed by Abdulmumini Salihu, the Danejin Daura, the Daura emirate council said it has suspended public activities for Sallah.
The statement, which was dated July 13, was addressed to the emirate council members and the Emir’s advisers.
The Daura Emirate council said special prayers should be offered for sustainable peace in the state immediately after the Eid prayers on Sallah day.
Recall that the Emir of Daura suspended activities marking the end of the Ramadan fast in the emirate council for security reasons.
