SECURITY OPERATIVES ARREST SUSPICIOUS TRAVELLERS

Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and SO-SAFE Corps of Ogun State; late in the night on Wednesday, May 27 arrested 5 suspicious-looking travellers at Kuto Garage, Abeokuta who were said have travelled from Benue State to Abeokuta, Ogun State.


This was disclosed in a statement signed by Cdr Babatunde Akinbiyi, Trace Public Relations Officer (M&S), on Thursday, May 28, 2020.


The arrested travellers were apprehended because of their suspicious appearance and for flouting the stay at home order in the State, Akinbiyi said. 



He also said the vehicle that was conveying them, white Nissan Caravan with registration Number AAB 96 ZY, at the time of their arrest also carried some unknown number of persons who fled at the point of interception in Kuto. 


The passengers claimed they resided in Abeokuta but travelled to Benue to bury their father who died of a stroke.



According to Akinbiyi, the arrested passengers were taken to the Divisional TRACE Command, Abeokuta for further investigation.

In compliance with the COVID-19 pandemic protocol by the Government, the passengers were tested for COVID-19 using the medical infrared thermometer to ascertain their temperature levels, which were reported to come out normal.


After a series of investigation, the claim by the passengers about the reason for their travel came out true.


However, the passengers were charged a fine of 5,000 each by the Ogun State Mobile Traffic Court for violating the stay at home and curfew order imposed by the Government.
