Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Recover Rustled Livestock, Arrest Suspected Bandits in Kaduna
Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational successes across Kaduna State, leading to the recovery of rustled livestock, arrest of suspected bandits and the restoration of public order in troubled communities.
According to the military, the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality across the North-West region.
On June 20, troops acting on credible intelligence responded to reports of cattle rustling in a community within Kaduna State. Upon making contact with the fleeing suspects, security forces engaged them in a gun battle, during which two suspected bandits were neutralised.
The operation also led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition and stolen livestock, effectively foiling the criminal operation. However, the military disclosed that one civilian was killed during the incident by the attackers.
In a separate operation carried out the same day, troops on night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits. Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered digital materials believed to contain evidence linking the suspects to terrorist and bandit networks. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Similarly, on June 21, troops conducting a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who retreated into nearby bushes after coming under pressure. During a follow-up operation, two suspected bandit informants were arrested, while motorcycles and communication devices containing incriminating materials were recovered.
The military said initial findings suggest the suspects were involved in criminal activities, adding that further investigations are ongoing.
Also on June 21, troops were deployed to Mararraba community in Kaduna State following unrest triggered by the mob killing of a woman accused of child trafficking.
According to the military, the crowd subsequently attempted to attack public facilities and block a major highway before security personnel intervened. Troops were able to disperse the mob, secure critical infrastructure and restore normal traffic flow while maintaining a visible presence to prevent further disturbances.
The Theatre Commander commended the troops for their professionalism, discipline and vigilance, stating that the recent achievements underscore the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to intensify operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements.
He reassured residents that intelligence-driven and offensive operations would continue in order to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across the region.
