Most Rev. Moses Chikwe, the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Imo State, who was abducted alongside his driver have regained their freedom.

Recall that the Bishop and his Driver were abducted on Sunday, December 27 in Owerri.

The Police PRO in Imo State, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirming the development late on Friday, said the Bishop and his driver were rescued alongside other abducted victims without ransom.

He said, “His Lordship, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe and his driver, Ndubuisi Robert, who were abducted on the evening of Sunday, December 27 were finally released,”

He stated that Bishop Chikwe was at his home resting after the traumatic experience while the driver had been taken to the hospital to treat a wound that was inflicted by the abductors.

The clergyman, in a statement thanked the operatives of the State's police command for their efforts in ensuring they were rescued.

Earlier in the week, the Owerri Archdiocese had debunked reports stating that the Bishop was dead.

The statement reads; “All Christ’s faithful and people of goodwill at large to disregard the purported news feed by one Useni Yusuf at AI Press on the killing of the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe.

“This information is unconfirmed, misleading and does not come from the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.

“We continue to appeal that all join the archbishop in prayers for the release of Bishop Chikwe and Mr Ndubuisi Robert, his driver."
