Anambra Police, Vigilante Group Dismantle Secessionist Camp, Rescue Kidnap Victim
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba, have dislodged a secessionist/terrorist camp in Awa, Orumba North LGA, rescuing a kidnapped victim and neutralising four armed suspects.
The operation, which lasted over 15 hours on 21 August 2025, was launched following credible intelligence. The victim, who had been abducted despite his family paying a ransom of N20 million, was freed during the raid.
Recovered from the camp were a cache of arms and explosives, including pump action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, improvised explosive devices, gas cylinders, vehicles, mobile phones, and other items.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu commended the operatives for their gallantry, assuring residents that extensive follow-up operations are underway to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle other criminal hideouts across the state.
