COVID-19 VIOLATION: ADAMAWA GOVERNOR, AHMADU FINTIRI, REFUSES TEMPERATURE CHECK AT PORT HARCOURT AIRPORT, FAAN REACTS
It is becoming a trend among Nigerian politicians, as the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, had also flouted the COVID-19 protocol put in place by the PTF on COVID-19, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in a statement released on Thursday, July 15, said that the Governor and his entourage refused to have their temperature checked at the airport on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
This is coming barely a day after FAAN accused former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, of assaulting an airport official enforcing the Covid-19 protocol at the Kano airport.
According to FAAN, Fintiri and his team also refused to sanitize their hands and have their baggage sanitised by the health officials.
Meanwhile, the airport authority had released guidelines for passengers following the reopening of domestic flights in the country.
The guidelines include mandatory temperature checks for all passengers, the use of facemasks, physical distancing advisory, and the exclusion of the VIPs’escorts from following their subjects into the terminal.

However, the Government officials who came to receive Fintiri and his team on Tuesday were said to have driven right through the barricades up to the terminal building ignoring traffic and Aviation Security instructions.
The airport authority condemned the actions of the Governor and his aides, as it described it as an “irresponsible” and “unacceptable” one.
The statement read in part“The Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria hereby strongly condemns the conduct of the Governor of Adamawa state Alh Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who arrived Port Harcourt International Airport aboard aircraft 5N-IZY, at 17:08 hrs on 14th July 2020 with 8 others, and who flagrantly refused to observe the Airport Security and Public Health protocols as directed by the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 by refusing to have his temperature checked, or being sanitised by the health officials.
“His whole entourage of 8 did exactly as he did. The team that came to receive them drove right through the barricades up to the terminal building ignoring traffic and Aviation Security instructions.
“This irresponsible act endangers all other airport users, it is unacceptable, and as such it has also been duly escalated. FAAN hereby cautions all airport users, especially our esteemed VIPs, to please respect the Presidential directive by observing airport Security and Public Health travel protocols put in place to protect all air travellers against acts of unlawful interference, infection and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Again, some social media users have reacted to the situation. A twitter user said, “The same Rubbish you posted yesterday concerning the former Zamfara Governor, you guys just keep typing trash without any action.”
Another user attributed the situation as a result of not penalizing Yari who had initially flouted the protocol, saying “ Again, you have been telling us of escalating when it comes to these kinds of people. Would that have been the case if it were the ordinary Nigerian who actually fund their extravagant and rude lifestyles?
Why can't you subject them to same treatment?
STOP ESCALATING!!!”
“That is what you see when public positions are filled with arrogant and people with oppressive thoughts. But the most stupid part of it is that the same person and his entourage will follow and obeyed strictly all the rules if it is to be in Europe and America. What a shame!,” another concerned Nigerian said.
