GOVERNOR ZULUM ASKS FG TO CLEAR SAMBISA FOREST WITH MERCENERIES

Following the brutal massacre of about 43 farmers in Borno State on Saturday, Governor Babagana Zulum has asked the Federal Government to engage mercenaries to clear the Sambisa Forest.


The Governor made this known on Monday while suggesting recommendations to the Federal Government on how to win the war against Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents terrorizing the north-eastern region of Nigeria.


He said; “One of our recommendations as possible solutions to end the insurgency is the immediate recruitment of our youths into military and paramilitary services to complement the efforts of the Nigerian forces.


“Our second recommendation is to engage the services of our immediate neighbours, especially the government of Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic, in clearing the remnants of Boko Haram hiding in the shores of the Lake Chad.

“Our third recommendation is for him to engage the services of the mercenaries to clear the entire Sambisa forest.


“Our fourth recommendation is for him to provide the police and the military, with armed resistant armoured personnel carriers and other related equipment.


“We are also soliciting the support of the federal government to support the Borno State repatriation of out displaced persons currently residing in Cameroon and Niger Republic.”


He believes engaging mercenaries as well as the immediate recruitment of youths into the military to boost its strength will go a long way to defeat the insurgents.


Zulum noted that it was also important to engage the services of neighboring Niger Republic, Chad, and Cameroon to clear the remnants of the insurgents in the Lake Chad region and the Mandara Mountains.


Governor Zulum also urged the Government to ensure the provision of mine resistance armored personnel carriers and other equipment for the military, police, and other security agencies involved in the fight against insurgency.
