NIGERIANS REACT AS NIGER DELTA MILITANTS THREATEN TO ATTACK ABUJA AND LAGOS
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their concerns over the threat by a group of Niger Delta militants identified as Supreme Egbesu Liberation Fighters to destroy infrastructures in Lagos and Abuja.
The militants, in a viral video posted on Tuesday by Africa Independent Television (AIT), accused the Federal Government of marginalising the region and failing to deliver on the amnesty programme.
Reading from a statement, a masked member of the group said there has been no meaningful development in the area since they accepted an amnesty programme offered by the government.
“After accepting the amnesty pact, till date, there are no schools, no potable water, no light, no hospital and access roads for our people to enjoy”.
The group also complained that “no meaningful progress has been made” with the Ogboni clean-up project “because the Nigerian government has decided to place politics against the meaningful development of our people”.
The group said the Nigerian government “has decided to play politics against the meaningful development of our people”.
It said the way “Zamfara gold mining sector is being handled by their people”, the people of Niger Delta should also be allowed to manage their resources.
It said, “Over the years, the Niger Delta people have made frantic efforts to create an enabling environment… but to our great dismay, the Nigerian government over the years has decided to handle the issues of the Niger Delta with kid gloves. They have betrayed the struggle and have left the people to their fate.

“Rather, what is visible is the presence of military gunboat and the numerous military personnel dispersed to the Niger Delta who are killing, raping, and maiming the innocent people of the region.
“Look at the security surveillance contract taking place in our region through the federal government, these agencies in place have decided to shortchange our people. Now in our territorial waters, it is an Israeli company that is providing waterway security which we have competent hands with expert knowledge to manage.
“Don’t worry, because we are coming to destroy all your infrastructure in Abuja and Lagos. As a group committed to giving total liberation to our people, we will destroy the oil facilities both onshore and offshore in no distant time, we will be seen to be crippling the Nigerian economy.”
The group however nominated former President Goodluck Jonathan and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to mediate between it and the Nigerian government.
Recall, Eons Intelligence had earlier reported how operatives of the Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Saturday arrested two Niger Delta kidnap suspects, foiling the planned abduction of one Alhaji Demola in Lagos State.
The suspects confessed that they were coming to Lagos to resume their kidnapping activities after relocating back to Niger Delta almost 3years Ago.
After the video surfaced online, many Nigerians have taken to their social media to express their concerns over the looming crisis happening at a time when the country is still battling with terrorism, banditry and other security threats.
Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central and human rights activist, urged the government to "appeal to the Niger Delta militants not to add to our woes."
A twitter user with username @joeejio4 condemned the planned attack saying, "The Niger Delta Militants threat to destroy infrastructures in Lagos and Abuja is a misplaced aggression/ priority. Imagine if same energy is channeled against marauding herdsmen currently ravaging Yenagua and its environs".
"These Niger Delta Militants abi agitators were making sense until they said they'll attack Lagos and Abuja.I agree there's no fairness in allowing Zamfara mine and keep gold while crude oil is for everyone and the states can't 'mine'.
"One the other hand, these folks need to ask their govs what they've been doing with derivation finds. A lot of money have gone into the Niger Delta. Where's the money!?
"And they say Goodluck Jonathan will be their middle man! Is @GEJonathan an accomplice to terrorism? You want to attack Lagos and Abuja? Mtcheeew! That one line turned them to jokers!
Lagos and Abuja are the states eating up your money abi? You wont bomb your own states to make a statement. You won't arrest your governors past and present?," another user @wemimospot said.
