Police Uncover Illegal Weapons Factory, Arrest Cultist and Murder Suspect Across Three States
The Nigeria Police Force has achieved notable success in its fight against crime with a series of coordinated operations across multiple states, leading to the dismantling of an illegal weapons manufacturing factory, the arrest of cultists, and the apprehension of two suspects for murder.
On January 11, 2025, police operatives raided an illegal weapons manufacturing factory in Tse Akamabe, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State. During the operation, two suspects, identified as Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as "AK," aged 35, were arrested. Items recovered from the factory included nine locally fabricated pistols, one unfinished locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vise machines, a filing machine, and various tools used for weapon manufacturing.
In another development, police officers in Delta State acted on credible intelligence to raid the apartment of a known Eiye Confraternity hitman, Prosper Akeni, aged 32, in the DSC area. The operation resulted in the recovery of one English revolver pistol, one Beretta pistol, two locally made double-barrel guns, two locally made single-barrel guns, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single-barrel pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition. The suspect confessed that the weapons belonged to his cult group, of which he is a high-ranking member.
The police also made progress in addressing violent crimes in Kebbi State. On December 31, 2024, at about 8:00 PM, Yunusa Haruna, a 25-year-old resident of Bakin Turu Village in Shanga LGA, was arrested for fatally stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in the chest during an argument. On January 8, 2025, another suspect, Abubakar Ummar, was arrested in Zuru Village for stabbing Mohammed Bala during a dispute, which led to Bala’s death.
Commending the operatives for their efforts, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, described these achievements as milestones in the fight against crime and criminality. He urged officers to intensify their efforts to restore peace and security across the country. The IGP also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to the police, emphasizing the importance of community-based policing in achieving a safer society.
