Shocking Crime: Woman Poisoned, Buried in Forest by Brother and Herbalist
Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested Habibu Umaru and two others in connection with the alleged murder of his sister, Hadiza Umaru, in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
Hadiza was reported missing on December 1, 2024, with extensive search efforts failing to locate her. During an investigation, Habibu, her brother, was apprehended and confessed to luring her to a herbalist, Aliyu Mallam Taiwe.
The herbalist, alongside his accomplice, Rabiu Aliyu, admitted to administering a poisonous substance to Hadiza under the guise of treating her for “evil spirits,” resulting in her death. The suspects revealed they buried her body in a shallow grave within Taiwe forest, near Maitumbi.
Further investigations uncovered three additional shallow graves in the area, linked to similar crimes.
Parading the suspects on Thursday at the police headquarters in Minna, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Danmamman, disclosed that the suspects face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
Danmamman said, “On December 5, 2024, a complaint of a missing person was reported at the Crack-Squad Unit that one Hadiza Umaru, residing in Garatu, Bosso, was discovered missing on December 1, 2024. All efforts to locate her proved abortive.
“In the course of investigation, one Habibu Umaru of Angwan-Maigari, Garatu Bosso, was strongly suspected of the victim’s disappearance and was arrested.
“During interrogation, he confessed to being the victim’s biological brother and deceitfully took her to a herbalist, Aliyu Mallam Taiwe, at Taiwe village via Maitumbi.
“The said Mallam was arrested with one Rabiu Aliyu, and during interrogation, they confessed to giving the victim a poisonous substance to drink for the treatment of ‘evil spirits,’ leading to her immediate death. They narrated further that the deceased was stripped of her clothing and buried in a shallow grave within Taiwe forest via Maitumbi.”
The police commissioner confirmed that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
