TCN Announces Planned Maintenance, Temporary Blackouts in FCT

has informed residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of planned power outages in specific areas due to maintenance activities.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN disclosed that its engineers would carry out maintenance on two transmission substations over the weekend, potentially affecting electricity supply in some parts of the FCT.

According to the statement, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) will be unable to supply power to customers in Gwagwalada and surrounding areas for four hours on Saturday.

“Today, Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., maintenance will be conducted on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation,” the statement read.

Similarly, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, maintenance work will be carried out at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., resulting in power interruptions in Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.

“On Sunday, maintenance work will be conducted on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the Kukwaba substation. This will affect electricity supply to Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp,” the statement added.

TCN apologized for the inconvenience caused, emphasizing the importance of the maintenance activities to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause, particularly during the yuletide season. However, these maintenance activities are crucial to maintaining the optimal performance of our power equipment,” the statement concluded.
