CUSTOMS INTERCEPT MAN CARRYING OVER 5,000 ATM CARDS IN KANO

The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a man identified as Sanusi Labaran conveying over 5,000 ATM Cards, on his way to Dubai onboard an Ethiopian Airline.


Nasir Ahmed, the Area Comptroller, Kano/Jigawa Customs, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen at the Command’s headquarters in Kano, on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.


According to the Area Comptroller, officers of the command made the arrest after employing intelligence and professional tactics to ensure no illegal or prohibited items are moved into and or out of the country through the airport.

Ahmed revealed Labaran concealed the items in two bags containing beans as camouflage.


The Area Comptroller congratulated the Customs Officers deployed at the Aminu Kano International Airport for a job well done and encouraged them to be at alert at all times as such persons might begin to explore other ways of carrying out their illegal businesses.


Nasir Ahmed, who said that if the suspect had succeeded, the country would have lost greatly, reiterated the command’s devotion and commitment to safeguarding the country’s entry and exit points.


He stated that the suspect has being handed over the suspect to officials from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for further investigations.


While reacting to the arrest, Mr Sunusi Aliyu, EFCC Zonal Head, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina, applauded the Customs in Kano for the seizure which he describes as a clear violation of the country’s Money Laundry Act.
