PANIC AS LAND DISPUTES DEGENERATES TO COMMUNAL VIOLENCE IN ANAMBRA, TWO DEAD

A communal clash among Aguleri, Umuleri, and Omoba communities in Anambra has caused the death of at least 2 persons

 

The communal violence was caused by unresolved land disputes which escalated on Saturday leading to the destruction of a house, four vehicles and two motorcycles, the police said.


The Nigeria Police has been deployed to restore normalcy in the area. 


Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed in a statement said the crisis began on Saturday morning over a disputed area of land.

The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang, had directed the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Awka, to carry out discreet investigation into the clash and bring the perpetrators to book while urging warring parties to explore legal options to resolve their grievances.
