Police Rescue 21 Kidnapped Victims, Recover N4.8 Million Ransom, Arms in Nationwide Crackdown
The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry, and illegal arms proliferation across the country, leading to a series of successful operations that dismantled criminal networks and rescued multiple victims.
In a coordinated crackdown throughout the first quarter of 2025, police operatives executed strategic raids that led to the apprehension of key suspects, the recovery of ransom money, and the seizure of firearms, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.
One of the major successes occurred in Taraba State on March 29, 2025, when police operatives attached to the State Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, intercepted a kidnapping operation along the Takum/Mararaba road. A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the criminals to flee and resulting in the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims. All vehicles abandoned at the scene were recovered, and two victims who sustained injuries were taken for medical treatment.
In a separate operation in Kano State, police launched an investigation on March 8, 2025, following the abduction of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau. Acting on intelligence, operatives from the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested multiple suspects—Tukur Lawal, also known as Maikudi, along with Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim—on March 18 and 19. Authorities recovered a locally made rifle and N4.8 million in ransom money. The victim was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family.
Additionally, operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) arrested Kafinta Musa in Taraba State for involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms. An AK49 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition was confiscated, and further investigations are underway to apprehend other members of his criminal syndicate.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers for their dedication and professionalism in executing these operations. He urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely information that could help prevent and combat crime. The recent successes underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety and security of citizens nationwide.
